Machine Embroidery

I have had a fantastic time trying out some things from the Machine Embroidery book my DH got as part of my birthday present.  And I've loved it!!  Here is the finished piece (yet to be framed - and I think its worthy of a frame!).  Below are some photos of how I got to the finished piece.

Sewing onto the water soluble film was surprisingly easy and whats so exciting is you have no idea how its going to turn out!!

I thought I had joined all the rows of sewing together but as you can see I obviously didn't - so I've got rather too many holes in it!!!

So I repeated the whole process again with the water soluble film and did even more sewing!!!

And the picture at the top is the finished piece sewn onto some gorgeous green silk - Love IT!  Can't wait to do it again.

Beach Huts

Faye put me onto this rather lovely blog: http://www.textileillustration.blogspot.com/ or her website at http://www.textileillustration.co.uk/ - and I just couldn't resist buying one of the patterns and some postcards.  It was very easy to do and fun.  I think its worthy of a proper frame!

Wonky Nine Patch

It's definitely coming along!  I've now made all the squares wonky and joined them together.  I now need to decide what sort of boarder to put on.  My favourite square is the red and green/yellow stripe fabric, but I'm pleased with all of it so far.

Birthday presents

I celebrated my birthday last weekend and was given some fabulous presents.  Reading books (always welcome), a beautiful journal for my next holiday (off to India in November) and of course some great books to enhance my fabric and sewing machine obsession!
The knitting wool came from a girlfriend and I'm in the process of making a scarf with it.  Its very strange wool with bobbles that knits really quickly!  Faye and I went to Creative Quilting on Wednesday to spend some of my birthday money.  I bought some essentials and another pattern which has the most adorable trucks, cars, traffic lights and motor scooters on it.  Can't wait to start using all my goodies!!  Thank goodness I've got 12 days annual leave starting today - yay!!

Wonky nine patch

Its been a beautiful day, so we walked along the coast with the dog, then I had to do some gardening (I always feel guilty on a nice day if I don't do a bit - so the grass has been cut) and then I could feel guilt free and carry on adding the black boarders to my wonky nine patch.  I'm now itching to sew them together but I think I might have to go and do dinner......

Rainbow Scrap Challenge - pink

I probably say this every month - but I love this pinwheel pattern, and I'm impressed by my own resistance - I could make loads of them in all my left over scraps in every colour I possess - BUT I haven't!!  I did struggle a bit with the pink as I don't have a lot in that colour and the scraps I do own are all in the bright pink so had to route around for some different shades.
And here are January and February's squares to add to March - they do look great!

Stash busting

I've had fun this weekend stash busting!  and here are my wonky nine patch squares.  They were a little tricky to do as I was influenced by the pack of plain 6 1/2" squares that I used to complement all my bright, pattern fabric and if I was doing it again I would go for a larger square, because once they were sewn together my squares were only 5 1/2".  Still I'm pleased with the end result.  Now all I have to do is put a black boarder round them and make them even wonkier!!!

Tapestry

I completed my tapestry but hadn't got round to turning it into a cushion.  I really dislike making cushions so I got it over and done with as quickly as possible and now It's done I'm really pleased with the end result!
And so onto the next project - using up some of my stash!  I'm always really impressed when I look at other peoples blogs on how inventive they are with their stash.  So I sorted out some lovely bright patterns to go with some 6 1/2" squares I've had at the bottom of one of my fabric boxes for I don't know how long.  And here they are - I'm going to have a go at doing a wonky nine patch.....watch this space.
