Rainbow scrap challenge - Yellow

Thought I would pop in and take a look at the Rainbow Scrap Challenge site to see if May's colour had been published - and it has it's YELLOW!  Shouldn't be a problem, I think I have lots of yellow, I was told by one of my quilt teachers once 'that a little bit of yellow goes a long way' - I think that's true!

Brockenhurst Needlework Fiesta

I've had such fun!!  The Fiesta is only a small affair in the village community centre but it attracts some really good retailers and has a very friendly atmosphere (and as a bonus it's only up the road from me).  This is my fourth year of going and I've learnt you need to go with a project in mind or at the very least a list!!  So I can say with great satisfaction I got everything on my list (OK and a bit more), stayed in budget and chatted with some like minded people and best of all found a textile group that has its work shops once a month on a day that I'm free and again is only up the road in Christchurch.
From this little pile of goodies I plan to do six projects:
  1. Dorset buttons - I bought the starter kit last year and really enjoyed making them
  2. Lutrador - I can now do a project from a book I received for Christmas
  3. Purple threads - make my friend a thread picture for her birthday
  4. 2 zips - complete DHs grandchildren cushions
  5. Thread - to go with my machine embroidery book (birthday present) and use with the above
  6. Silksacks - to make some silk paper (OK not on the list but how could I resist!)

Truck cushion

Not sure these photographs show the quilting very well, but the cars and trucks are all attached and I've done the background in a really simple free motion stitch.  I'm pleased with the effect however.

Thread textile

Its a rainy day - yay!
We desperately need the rain (I think most of the south of England is now in a drought) but it also means I can go and sew in my room and feel completely guilt free!!!
Today I experimented with some threads on silk - inspired by my new machine embroidery book.  And I had such fun.
Once it was laid down on the silk I then attached it with straight stitch (I think I will have a go at using a fancy stitch next time) and added some beads to give a different colour and a bit of bling.
And cut a piece of mount board.  I might well carry on and frame it as I rather like it!

Car and Truck cushions

I absolutely love the 'Don't look now' patterns and now Isabella's Garden has gone to Isabella I thought I should work on something for the boys (they already have quilts - I will post some pictures later).  These little trucks and cars are really fiddly but worth the effort I think.
The boys are going to have cushions (I'm not sure I could do an enormous quilt of this pattern)
All I have to do now is attach the cars and trucks, quilt the back, buy zips and cushion pads Oh yes and then of course make the cushions!!

Rainbow scrap challenge

I struggled with the neutrals and they wouldn't be my choice but now they are pieced they look OK!
and look even better put in with the brighter colour pallet.  Faye has finished piecing her quilt top of pin wheels and has added a boarder of smaller pins around the edge and it looks lovely (you can see it at http://www.creative-faye.blogspot.com/ ) so I might have a go at making some smaller ones in the four colours - I will only need to make 56 in total and four in each colour with a few odd ones thrown in!!!
Ive only just realised it's Friday 13th (not that I'm superstitious) but I did have to take my DH to A and E this afternoon after he hit his head - a bit of magic glue and some steristrips later and he's as good as new!

Happy Easter

Happy Easter!!!!!
I hope everyone is enjoying their Easter.  I have my sister in law and her husband staying for the weekend so we are doing lots of fun things - that mainly centre around golf and eating, but that's OK with me!!

I have however managed to do a little bit of sewing.  After raiding my step mothers neutrals I now have enough different shades to make my two blocks for the rainbow scrap challenge.  They are nearly done, so will post a picture when complete!
Picture taken at Hampton Court last year!

Rainbow scrap challenge

HELP!  The colour for April is neutral.  Not sure how this one will go!
