Pirate ship and cushions

I really don't have much to show for a week of stitching!  A few more stitches added to Joshua's pirate ship.  I do like how the colours pop on the black Aida though.

and during the week I did make two new cushion covers from a lovely piece of William Morris style tapestry fabric.  I even managed to add zips (always tricky) and (drum roll please) piping!!

I hope to get some more time to add to the pirate ship for slow Sunday stitching.  Hop on over and see what other people are stitching today!

Luna Lapin

Welcome to another slow Sunday stitching (well for me it will be slow Saturday stitching - I'm looking after the children Sunday while Mum and Dad go to the cinema!)

I've had a very satisfactory week with plenty of stitches put into a variety of projects.  I finished off my Luna Lapin bunny and I couldn't be more pleased with how she turned out.  There were some tricky bits, I spent far too long deciding where the eyes should be placed and as for satin stitching the nose......nightmare!  But I am now happy!

I am looking forward to making her a dress and a coat, but unfortunately they don't have the colour felt I want so I am waiting for it to come back in stock.  So in the meantime she will just have to be a chilly bunny.

I wanted to get the class project finished, as next month we will be starting something new.  This was the project from a picture in a magazine cut into 1.5inch squares and rearranged.
I wasn't too sure what to do with it but providing I can find it in 9 months time when I buy my 2024 diary It will make a very nice diary cover!

I've also made some progress on my pirate ship cross stitch but not enough yet to warrant a photo (maybe next week)

I did treat myself to some William Morris like fabric to make some new cushion covers and a Highland cow cushion kit with Tula Pink fabric.  I won't start either of these until I've bought new cushion pads, mine are getting very tired and flat!

Well that's all for this week.  If I get a chance between running around after a two year old and feeding a 3 month old I will link up with Kathy tomorrow for some slow Sunday stitching!

60 degree diamond quilt and Luna

It's been another turbulent week in the news with the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria.  But I am not going to dwell on that I am going to do a hip hip hooray because I have finally finished my 60 degree travel quilt after  6 1/2 years.  Not long in some books I know!

This quilt contains roughly 1295 60 degree diamonds, with some fabric repeats but not many.  Its 60 inches square and I started it in 2016 and made up a star with white on white fabric surrounds where I would write where we were staying in our motor home.  So some of those stars have travelled around Europe and its a great reminder of happy holidays!  I machine quilted it in 3 inch lines from top to bottom.  It was reasonably easy to do by eye using the top of the diamonds to guide me.  I also chopped off the 3 inch borders (decided I didn't like them) and with a lot of jiggling around managed to use that for the binding.  Of course Lola would not let me take a decent photo so I took it upstairs and photographed it on the spare bed where it will live I think.

That of course meant I could start a new project so I have made a start on my Luna Lapin rabbit.  I received the fabric kit for Christmas but knew I would need uninterrupted time.  I've still some way to go but its a good start!

At my craft group last week I carried on with the cut up magazine project and again I've made good progress, although I've no idea what I will do with it on completion.

Well that's all for this week.  Hop on over to Kathy's blog for some slow Sunday stitching!

Modern Japanese rice bag, travel quilt and Amber's apron

Another week has flown past and here we are in February!  I've had a productive week and the weekend has been very productive.  I actually have a finish to show.  I saw this pattern on Instagram and really liked it.  The pattern comes from Karen Stevens and I can definitely see more than one in my life!  I started by piecing the base fabric and sewing some sashiko style stitching (next time I will do more embellishment because it really lends itself to that).

The instructions were really clear, but you can't be sloppy with the measuring and cutting.  I'm happy to say my Japanese rice bag turned out perfectly!

I also managed to get the quilting done on my travel quilt and the binding cut and stitched on.  I'm not a lover of sewing the binding down but I can see the end is in sight so I am working on it one side at  time (only one side to go).  As I worked on it I realised I didn't have a label, so yesterday I stitched up a label and just need to decide what to call it and then I can sew that on as well.  My plan is to have this finished today for slow Sunday stitching!

I also got it into my head I wanted to do some cooking with Amber, so after buying a ready made cupcake kit (seemed the easiest way to start off) I thought she would need an apron.  Now this should have been a quick win but actually it took me a lot longer than I anticipated!  Everything came from my stash (it took me ages to sort out the bits I needed) including the velcro around the neck. I am pleased with the result though.

Of course what that means with two projects complete and another almost there I am free to start a new one!  With that in mind I bought a new cross stitch pattern from Satsuma Street - I know I've said it before but I do love her designs!

I want to get a bit further on than three rows on Joshua's pirate ship, so I will concentrate on that for now but I'm looking forward to maybe making some small folk flower bags.

Well that's all for this week.  Hop on over to Kathy's blog for some more slow Sunday stitching and have a nice day!
