Another Little Quilt Swap 8

Every year Kate over HERE hosts a quilt swap.  The challenge was to make a quilt that had a circumference of between 48" - 80".  It had to have three layers and be mostly made of material.  This is the third one I have taken part in and of course the challenge is to make a quilt that everyone wants to own!  Once all the entries are in (34 in total) we put in order from 1 - 15 our favourites and I am absolutely delighted to say I got my first choice - How lucky am I?  And as it turns out the one that most people voted for which meant that my quilt was up there on peoples favourites list to!!

This little gem is called 'Cherry Chirps' and measures about 12" x 12".  It was made by Hilde Hoogwaerts from the Netherlands and she has a great blog which you can see HERE.  The little birds are so clever.  They have been fussy cut from floral fabric with the centre of the flower as the eye and is perfectly placed.  The berries on the branches and in the birds beak is a large french knot using ribbon.  I really am very happy with my new picture quilt and it has joined the others on the wall in my work room!

RSC March

I've recently had to buy some aqua fabric for my hexagon quilt, so although they aren't strictly scraps I thought I would make a house and add it as a border to one of the houses made last year!  So not a lot of sewing for March but at least some!!

Beautiful fabric

It has been ages since I last posted and life over the last two weeks has been hectic!  My DH has had two hospital appointments and both Consultants are happy with him and don't want to see him for six months, which is really good news.  Faye's wedding plans are up and running (although there is so much to do it is slightly over whelming sometimes and I'm only the Mother of the Bride so how she feels must be really daunting!)  Which means that little has gone on in the sewing room.  I did however receive this rather beautiful fabric from a girlfriend as a late birthday present.  The designs are based on the collections from the Victoria and Albert Museum.  I'm not sure what I will do with them yet but at the moment I'm enjoying looking at them!

RSC 14

At textile class on Monday we were working on weaving on canvas.  The idea was we used up our scraps of fabric and made a small bag.  I didn't think I would have any use for a bag so decided to weave a panel to attach to a tote bag (a girl can never have enough tote bags in my opinion).  My colour scheme of turquoise, aqua, teal and fuchsia pink fits in perfectly with the RSC 14.  It was a lovely relaxing class, no pressure, just a good natter with class mates and a bit of sewing thrown in!

I wish that I had knocked back the white canvas with some spray paint, but too late for that now.  I will however do some machine stitching in the gaps at the top - satin stitch (the idea being to put something shiny behind it) and try to cover some of the white up!

Rainbow Scrap challenge

Yay!!!  Its a finish!  This is only nine blocks from 2013s rainbow scrap challenge, but it makes up into a nice size for a Project Linus quilt.  Ive put fleece on the back and haven't done a great deal of quilting but I think it enough.  I can now take it into Quilt group on Monday.

The colour for March is aqua, teal or anything between green and blue.  I really focused on getting my pink hexies finished last month, and they are all bordered with aqua so I might concentrate on doing the same with my blue ones this month. Oh yes and doing some more houses of course!
