Binding and thread painting

I am happy to say that Joshua's quilt has been quilted.  Very simple tram lines under each row of cars. a label has been added, the binding has been attached and now it's time to sew that binding down!!!! Really not my favourite bit.  But it does of course mean the end is in sight and with three and half months until his third birthday!

At class this month I started thread painting the little pansy from Emillie Ferris' book.  We all had our own thread painting project and everyone else opted to use two strands of DMC thread (there projects were much larger than mine).  The book said to use just a single thread and I actually enjoyed the process very much.  The picture below shows our progress after a day of stitching.  The beautiful pansy on the right of the picture was started a while ago as she was leading the class.  Isn't it a beauty!

My pansy was completed at home and put in a little 10cm hoop - I even stitched some felt to the back to neaten it up.  I must admit I am very pleased with how it turned out.  I shall look through the book and see which one I will do next.

For slow Sunday stitching I shall be stitching that binding down!  Hop on over to Kathy's blog to see what others are working on today.

Cars, trucks and thread painting

The weather in the UK has really turned mega hot.  Luckily where I live on the south coast we often get a bit of sea breeze which does bring the temperature down, that said it has been far too hot to contemplate sitting in the garden, even to relax with some hand sewing!  Which has meant I've done quite a bit in my sewing room (the sun doesn't get here until the late afternoon/early evening).  I've been working on getting all the bits sewn onto Joshua's car quilt and what a job it has been.  I tried to complete one colour at a time and then move on to the next colour, but there has been bits that I missed out.  Now however I am very happy to say I think I've completed free motion stitching on every single car, truck and road sign (I should add I've been working on doing this for the last month or so) sigh....thank goodness!

My helper turned it round so I see how much work has gone in to this quilt!

Not a particularly good picture but hopefully you get the idea.

I've also been working on a little embroidery of a pansy that I got from my new book ''Paint with Thread' by Emillie Ferris.  I've really been looking forward to having a go at thread painting but needed to get the satin stitch leaves out of the way first.

I've started on the pansy now and hopefully I will have it completed for next weeks slow Sunday stitching.  It is all stitched using one thread of DMC so it really is slow stitching, but actually quite relaxing to do.
In the mean time hop on over to Kathy's blog and see what others are stitching today.

Beach bag, Chirp and Tote bag

I feel like I've been away for ages!  It's just been very busy.  That doesn't mean I have neglected my sewing - far from it.  So I have a few things to share today for slow Sunday stitching!  First up is my finished bag made out of old jeans.  I love it.  It has already had a weekend away with me in London.

I've made some good progress on Chirp, birdie number 6 but the weather over the last couple of weeks has been so hot, I found it difficult to work on.  It has definitely turned cooler this weekend so I am hoping to get some more stitches into him.

I've also made a start on the Tully Tote.  The little red work stitcheries I decided to add instead of the suggested EPP are finished and attached.  I just need to do some quilting to the hexies and probably around the red work before I start to assemble the bag.

Well that's it for this week.  I will link up with Kathy tomorrow for some slow Sunday stitching.  Have a good day.
