Rainbow scrap challenge

I thought I had lots of yellows, but really struggled to find enough different ones.  I will have to raid my step mother and daughters stash if I want to add different yellows for the border!
When I first started quilting back in 1997, yellow featured heavily in my colour choice.  Below is my first ever quilt and the yellow and blue flower fabric and yellow fabric with tiny sprigs on it has featured in my pinwheel block above!

The sunflower wreath was my second attempt at patchwork and quilting and made in the early part of 1998.  Again I've used some of the fabric in my pinwheel block!  Aah a trip down memory lane!!
Oh and by the way that's Roxy's head in the top right hand corner!

Silk Card

It has been a beautiful weekend and most of it has been spent in the garden.  So I thought I would show a silk card I made a couple of weeks ago, for my brother-in-law and his wife to celebrate their Ruby Wedding Anniversary.

And this is what it looked like before I did anything with it!

Once I had laid out all the fibres that was pleasing to the eye, I wet the silk with soap and water and then applied some special glue to it.  Once it had dried I did a bit of fancy sewing (well not that fancy) and glued it to the card!

Puppies

My neighbours dog, a beautiful Westie, had 4 gorgeous puppies six weeks ago and although I realise this has nothing to do with quilting, sewing, textiles, I couldn't resist adding a photo.  Which brings me round to my own dog, who won a 2nd rosette in the village dog show on Saturday in the Best Rescue Dog category.  My daughter entered her and has the pictures on her blog at http://www.creative-faye.blogspot.com/ .  Of course I think she should have won 1st place - but I am ever so slightly bias!

Shopping bags

I generally spend part of my weekend looking at other peoples blogs - they give great inspiration and its fun to see what they are up to.  Today I visited Plum's site at http://www.plumquilts.blogspot.com/ (one day I will learn how to do a link with other blogs) and she had made a really nice shopping bag - a Morsbag (you can find the link on Plum's blog).  I tucked the memory away - not having any intention of making one (let alone two) and went to root out some fabric for daughter Faye's next project - an I spy quilt.  Now I'm actually quite methodical in my fabric storage, you know reds, yellow, oranges in one basket, blue, greens in another and in my novelty basket is also special fabric - the sort of fabric not to be used until something good comes along!  This fabric consists of several metres and came home with Faye from her trip to Vietnam and Thailand.  I've used some small bits of it but it is so beautiful, it just seemed a shame to cut it up.  This however is the perfect project!
I have improvised from Plum's morsbag by adding a small pocket to pop the bag into!
And then of course I had to make Faye one!

Trucks and Car cushions

I managed to finish the boy's cushions this week and I'm really pleased with them.  I dislike making cushions generally, but the way the pattern suggests is much nicer than I've done before.  After quilting the top and putting the zip in the back piece I made the cushions up as if they were a quilt - so added the binding in the traditional way!  It gives a nice little stand out edge.
