Home Sweet Home

Not quite sure how I managed to get any sewing done today what with walking the dog, a   round of golf and Olympics to watch.  Still I have finally made a start on the writing for home sweet home!!!

Scrappy Saturday + Olympics!

I like to pop onto the SoScrappy blog on a Saturday to see what everyone is up to and I'm glad I did!  It made me realise I have been doing the odd thing or two in blue, so thought I would post a photo!  If you want to have a look at other people's blue endeavours you can link in using the Rainbow Scrap Challenge button on the side - it really is worth it.
And some baby pinwheels which I made from the corners I cut off the big pinwheels above!  They might go into a mini quilt for the ALQS 7 which is being hosted by Kate on http://www.katesquilting.blogspot.com/

Well I wonder how many people made it through to the end of the Olympic opening ceremony?  I have to say I really enjoyed it (and it was totally different from Beijing - I'm glad we didn't try and do something similar), but did other countries understand it I wonder?  I must admit I did nod off during the parade and missed the Queen officially opening the games - is that treason I wonder?  But fortunately woke up to see the torch arriving and the rather beautiful lighting of the cauldron by the seven young, up and coming athletes - kinda made me proud to be British and a Londoner to boot!!!

ALQS 7

I've started to do all the little twiddle bits (I really like those bits) and sew on the leaves and stems of the flowers.  12" is a nice size to work on - it grows quickly!

ALQS 7

I have signed up to take part in Another Little Quilt Swap number 7, which is over on Kate's blog at http://katesquilting.blogspot.com/ (she has something like 60 people who have signed up).  Anyway I decided to make a start on my 12" x 12" quilt - even though it doesn't have to be ready until October!  And because I just love 'Don't look now' quilts - which you can see at http://dontlooknow.typepad.com/  Ive decided to do a tiny version of one I made earlier this year for little Isabella!  And here it is so far.

The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

Last night my DH and I went to the theatre to see The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.  For those who don't know about the Hitchhikers guide, it's based on the books by the late, great Douglas Adams and is all about Arthur Dent, an ordinary guy (who wears his plaid dressing gown through out the show) whose house (and in fact the entire planet) is destroyed by the Vogons to make way for an intergalactic highway.   It's over 30 years old and has a bit of a cult following in the UK!  The show last night was based on the original radio show, and had several members of the original cast.  A TV series and a film have also come out of the book and it was great fun, we really enjoyed it!!

Olympic torch relay

Today the Olympic torch relay is passing between Bournemouth and Southampton on its route to London in just 13days time!  Its amazing how the whole country has really got behind the relay with thousands of people turning out in all weathers to support the runners.  All those chosen to carry the torch run a mile and each has a story behind why they were picked.  The lady carrying the torch here is only 26 years old but has helped to set up a children's home and has helped over 100 children in 3 years.  There are many storeis like this and could be the reason why so many people stood in the torrential rain to cheer all the runners on.

I've added a few other pictures to give you an idea of the number of people there and hopefully a feel for the atmosphere (apologies for some of the pictures that have water drops on them!!!)

Rainbow scrap challenge - Blue

Blue was an easy colour to do.  I have loads in my stash, so it was a good idea of Angela's (Soscrappy) to divide them up into turquoise's and others.  They are a good colour addition to the challenge as well and I have been waiting since January to do this colour!  Now all we need in England is some blue sky and warmer weather, so we can say that summer has arrived - in the mean time here is a photo of the blue hydrangea outside my work room window.  I do like this plant, it's one of those that looks good at the end of the year when all the flowers have died because they hold there shape so well.  And Ive always marvelled that the hydrangeas in the gardens close by are more pink than blue (I think its got something to do with the soil they are planted in, but then again it might not!)

Rainbow scrap challenge - blue

Oops can't find the photo to down load for the rainbow scrap challenge, so will have to take another one and add it on.  But in the meantime have a look at Stephanies blog over at http://www.venusdehilo.com/ I absolutely love her colour combinations!

Glastonbuy

We were due to go on holiday in the van for the week, we didn't mind where we went, any part of the UK would be fine!!  However one look at the long range weather forcast put us off.......rain, rain and yet more rain!  So we decided to postpone the adventure for a week and go next week when the forecast is much friendlier!!  With that in mind we still needed a fix in the van, so ended up in one of our favourite places - Glastonbury.

We always do the same walk when we stay there!  Up to the top of the Tor and then back down through the town for some people watching and a coffee and then back to the campsite via the fields.  Here are a couple of pictures showing some amazing grafetti.

And I've always loved looking in the shop windows.  Its difficult to see in this one,
but the shoes are amazing!
