Birthday cards and a new sewing project!

I've started a new sewing project! (I know I should finish one before starting another, but I just can't help myself sometimes!) Its a little sewing case from a pattern I bought from Dandelion Designs. I realise however that I should have made the little pocket in the same fabric as the outside of the case, so I think I will unpick it and make it again.  Fortunately its not a long job. I'm really not sure why I did it in the same colour!!! Ahhhhhh!

Three of my girlfriends from school have birthdays in June and July and I'm seeing them in a couple of weeks time so wanted to make them a birthday card each. These come from a kit and are pop up match box cards (so they would be difficult to post). I sat and watched television last night and assembled these. Rather cute I think!

Now I'm off to remake that pocket!

Have a good day.

Hexies

Its been a while since I've posted anything on my Grandmothers Garden quilt, but as you can see I've been plugging away at it and have added a third row since my last photo. It's interesting when you look at it in a photo you get to see its imperfections. Nothing major, but I wished I had used only light aqua's because some of them don't stand out enough from the three green leaves between each flower. Not many admittedly but just a few and my eye goes straight to them.  Maybe when I add the next row it won't be so obvious!

I have two more rows waiting to be finished and added and all being well I will be able to start work on them tomorrow. My plan is to watch a film (I'm in the mood for a musical or a Cary Grant film) and do some slow Sunday stitching! I will link up with Kathy's BLOG where you can see the projects that others are working on.

Have a lovely relaxing weekend!

Lace

Not much to show this week. We've been away for a few days to Dartmoor in Devon, where we had a fabulous time until this morning when 20 minutes after leaving the campsite to head for home we broke down. The motor home couldn't be fixed at the road side so we had to be towed home.  So eight hours after leaving the site we arrived home....as you can imagine exhausted!

Here is my latest project started Monday at Textile class. I dyed the lace using silk paints and have started to use some stitches to fill in the spaces.  It looks very odd on the cereal packet but hopefully when its finished it will look alright! The bottom stitch, interlaced insertion stitch, was really complicated but looks quite effective I think. The top one is twisted insertion stitch and the middle row will be faggot bundles. All new stitches to me so good to learn!

Canvas Work and Lola!

Its almost a TaDah moment, but not quite! I still actually have quite a lot to do, find some beads that match the light blue to fill in the gaps and then sew a border around the edge.  Even so I am extremely pleased that I have finally got this far.  I don't know if you will recall that when I started this last year I had a navy blue in the light blue area and wasn't sure whether to change the centre bit or not....well as you see I decided to take it out and replace it (it seemed out of place having only one bit of navy) and I'm glad I did!

So today after a nice walk with the dog I am going to work on my hexies some more (I've neglected them recently). You can log on to Kathys blog HERE and see what every one else is sewing today.

Last weekend we had our local May Day Fayre and the most popular event is always the dog show! For £1 you can enter your dog into what ever category you want, most adorable eyes, waggiest tail and Prettiest girl for example.  We entered Lola into the prettiest girl category and she won a 4th place rosette (out of 25). We of course think she should have got a 1st but then we are biased!!

Have a wonderful Sunday, enjoy the beautiful sunshine!

Slow Sunday Stitching

It looks beautiful and sunny outside this morning but I know it's going to be cold!! Still at least it isn't raining or snowing on this May Day!

We are back from our trip to Europe and had a wonderful time. The bulb fields in Holland are fantastic and I can still smell those Hyacinths. And Amsterdam is a great city, we only touched the surface and will have to go back. The Dutch also really like dogs (actually most of Europe seems to be very dog friendly) so we were able to take Lola almost everywhere with us which was a real bonus. We had some cold, wet weather there also but that gave me a chance to really crack on with my canvas work and the end is in sight!

For lunch we are meeting some friends who we haven't seen for a long time so we are really looking forward to that. But when we get back I will try and get the last three squares completed!  I will join up with Kathy's Slow Sunday Stitching post and you can see what other people are sewing today!
