Toucan and bird houses

It's been a busy and mixed week! On Monday I took my step mum to the Garden Centre and Waitrose - the first time she has been to either in nearly a year!  Going on a Monday was a good choice with very few people in the Garden Centre and most people in the supermarket gave us a wide birth.  I really enjoyed myself, I guess it just felt normal!  This week my DH got his second jab.  Again it just feels like we are getting back to normal.  I don't think this is any time to feel complacent of course, especially with how hard India is suffering at the moment (and then of course you get idiots demonstrating in London against the restrictions in the UK).  And for me I got a hair cut!!!!!!!!!!

On the sewing front I finished my tropical toucan and he is framed and delivered to Amber for her nursery wall.

Seeing Ivani's cross stitch of the bird houses on last weeks slow Sunday stitching reminded me I haven't put a single stitch in my bird house tapestry since last summer!  This week I rectified that!

A few weeks ago I was given a floor standing frame and it is perfect for this project.  Being able to use both hands to work from both sides of the tapestry is great.  I wonder how easy it is to use on a smaller project?
Hop on over to Kathy's blog to have a look at what other people are slow stitching today.......I have a dog who has been staring at me for the last twenty minutes - it's past 9am and she thinks her walk should have begun by now!  Have a great day!

New Project!!!

For some unknown reason I've been in the mood to prep for new projects.  Here's my before pile of novelty fabrics.

I've been cutting 6.5 x 3.5" rectangles of fabrics with the plan to make an I Spy quilt.  I'm going to use a Bonnie Hunter pattern.  I saw the quilt made up into an I Spy quilt on Gail's blog and just couldn't resist it!  And it's a great stash buster project too.

30 different fabrics cut (there seems to be a lot of cat fabric....and I'm a dog person rather than a cat person!).  Not sure how many I need but I guess I will just keep going until I've used every piece of fabric!

We are now off to Bournemouth for DH to get his second vaccine!

Slow Sunday Sitching

Lots of progress made on my lovely tropical Toucan!  I am hoping do some slow Sunday stitching on him today and maybe get him finished.  The only problem is it's going to be another lovely sunny day and I should be doing some gardening, but hopefully I can put in some stitches this afternoon!
I've also completed 39 rows on my Attic 24 Meadow blanket.  It really does remind me of a summer meadow!  Hop on over to Kathys blog to see what others are stitching today!

RSC - Blue

I've spent some of this week cutting out the fabric I require to make the last five animals to complete the Forest Fancy quilt top.  It was time consuming but it meant when I wanted to do some sewing I had it all ready to hand.  So another blue block has been added to the mix!

I am linking up with Angela for some more RSC inspiration.

Toucan

A little more has been added over the last couple of days to my latest Cotton and Twine cross stitch.  Loving his colourful flowers!

Toucan!

You can definitely see what sort of bird he is now!  I've started to add the flowers around him and will add more today for slow Sunday stitching (hop on over and take a look).
Tomorrow in England, our non essential shops are opening (that includes hairdressers!!!!! - happy dance - unfortunately I have to wait two weeks before my appointment).  On Tuesday Faye and I hope to pop into the big Marks and Spencers to buy Amber some long sleeved tops to go with her huge pile of leggings.  The fact I am writing this down shows my excitement at going out!  We have however planned this very carefully.....we will arrive when the shop opens and we've chosen a warmer day - never go on a rainy or cold day as that's what everyone else does! And we have both had our first vaccination.  So fingers crossed we can be in and out within an hour.  If we arrive and everyone in Hampshire and Dorset has the same idea we just won't go in!

RSC - blue

Cute bunny number two completed on my quest to finish another Rainbow scrap challenge!  Took ages to complete but again it was down to user error!!!!!! I really wish I would read the instructions (and if you've heard me say that before you would be right)
I probably need to think about what other colours I need to add to this because I think I only have another four more animal blocks to turn this into a useable quilt top.
If you want to see what other people are creating with there blue scraps hop on over to Angela's blog HERE

Crochet and cross stitch

24 rows of my meadow lap blanket completed.  The more I do the more I like it (I don't love it yet, but I'm getting there)!

I also finished filling in the black on the Cotton and Twine project.  Very glad to have this bit done, it's hard on the eyes and boring!  Still, done now and I can move on!

Happy Easter

I can't make my slow Sunday stitching look interesting what ever I do - so apologies for the boring picture!  I wonder if anyone knows what it is going to be?

I'm not a big fan of black (and there is rather a lot of it) but I will move on to the nice bright colours soon! Of course what I've got to hope is that I have counted correctly!  That's the only trouble of doing the outline first.

I've also been doing some crochet.  I am aiming for six rows (three colours) a day and so far so good. It has been lovely and hot the last few days so I've been gardening and sitting in the garden too.  I'm not sure why I started a blanket when the good weather is here.  It may just have to get put away when I get too hot and can't run the yarn through my fingers!
The colours are not my usual brights but I'm enjoying using a different colour group and the pattern is easy and it feels lovely and soft.
I am linking up to Kathy's blog where you can see what everyone has been stitching over the past week.  Hope you have a lovely restful Easter Sunday doing what ever pleases you!
 Happy Easter!
