Slow Sunday stitching

This week seems to have got away from me!  Not sure how as we are still in lock down and can't do very much.  I have spent lots of time in the garden as the weather has been glorious, so I guess that is the reason!  I have one finished project to show and one in progress.

This red work heart seems totally appropriate to hand in my work room.
My husband cut a piece of thin wood to fit across the back and drilled a hole in the middle of it, so the piece lays flat against the wall with no hook or nail showing.  Neat idea!

And a little bit more done on spring.  I will crack on and get this completed asap!

I am linking up to Kathy's blog for some slow Sunday stitching.  Have a nice day!

Spring cross stitch

I seem to have a bit of a sheep theme going on at the moment!  This is my current project from Cotton and Twine and its lovely to work on, the colours are beautiful and with spring just round the corner it felt appropriate.
I also had a left over red work heart from the project I dismantled to make a table runner.
So thought I would make a little wall hanging for my work room.  I just need to add some quilting.
I've spent some time at my sewing machine this week so I am rather looking forward to doing some slow stitching today!  Hope on over to Kathy's blog to see what other people are stitching today!

RSC dancing stars

I managed to get dancing stars sewn together, it was a bit tricky but I like the layout very much.  But look at all the papers in the back (thank goodness I resisted making it any bigger).  They are such tiny bits too and it has taken my five days to remove them.  I set my self the target of five a day and then it was all the tiny little bits that I had missed! Never again!!!! Anyway today I will sort out some wadding and backing fabric and decide how to quilt it.

Amber's cushion

I finished Amber's cushion!  I have made several of these in the past but it was the first time I've had to add an elephant and butterflies.  I've probably said it before but I am wondering if I have the stamina to make the full alphabet but I'm put off by how much securing each animal takes and handling a large quilt top would make it very tricky!  We will see.  I also love the backing fabric too!
The Government set a target of vaccinating 15 million of the most vulnerable people by February 15th and they actually reached there target on Sunday evening!  It feels really momentous and a fantastic achievement.  Well done NHS!

Red work Christmas 2020

Happy Valentines Day!

Here is my Valentines card to my lovely husband.  You can download the pattern free HERE and there is a very cute red work sheep also.

Despite it being bitterly cold here on the south coast there are definite signs of spring!  The daffodils are starting to bloom and the snowdrops are covering the garden in abundance. Roll on the warmer weather I say, not only because the virus can't thrive so well in warmer weather but I'm keen to get out in the garden!

This week I have completed 2020's Christmas red work heart to take its place next December with the other six hearts dating from 2014.  I'm very pleased I decided to catch up and I have the pattern for this years heart waiting to be sewn, probably in November!
I am linking up with Kathy for some slow Sunday stitching!  So hop on over and see what people are stitching today.

RSC

This week I have added two yellow stars (the ones on the right) to the project.  I only need three more to make a baby quilt - red, purple and orange.  So do I just make them or wait until they come up on the RSC? MAKE THEM!!!  So I did.
Nicely assisted by Lola.  They look so nice together that for a fraction of a second I thought about carrying on and making a bigger quilt.  It was only a fraction of a second - I started this with the RSC13 and its taken me 7 years to get back to it so I think with my track record I should cut my loses and just sew it together.  It will make a nice little play quilt for Amber.

Mid week update

Not a particularly good photo but I have started Amber's cushion.  The size has been dictated by the size of the cushion I had in the cupboard, so it is quite large, but that means I have plenty of room to add the animals!  This afternoon I will start to free machine around each one and add the squiggly bits that give each creature character!
On Monday I made six pots of Oxford marmalade.  It really does take a long time to make (It seems to take hours to reach setting point) but it tastes so delicious it is worth the effort!

Slow Sunday stitching

Every year I sew a Christmas piece of red work and always add the year somewhere on the project...... so I'm either being really organised and making this years a head of time or I'm very late?  Actually I'm very late.  Not quite sure why I didn't do one last year but as I was packing away my collection of Christmas hearts I realised I was rather sad I didn't have one for 2020!  But I am rectifying that now!  I shall be working on this for slow Sunday stitching while I watch a film this afternoon, so hop on over and take a look.

Rainbow scrap challenge

The colour for the rainbow scrap challenge this month is yellow.  But I have very little in the way of yellow fabric and had to really dig deep to find enough to make another butterfly.  This block took me several hours to make yesterday (I spent way too much time on it!).  Cutting the fabric is time consuming but then putting it together and not reading the instructions meant I sewed several strips together incorrectly!  I know rookie mistake!  Still I got there in the end!

And my collection of creatures to date!
I am linking up with Angela at so scrappy and you can see what other people are doing with there yellow scraps HERE

Edmund

I realised the pictures I showed of Edmund's cushion didn't do it justice (and I needed to tweak it a little bit).  But these show it in it's full glory!  Very happy with how it turned out. I now give my self permission to make something for Amber.
Yesterday Captain Tom died from the covid 19 virus.  His aim when we went into lockdown 1.0 was to walk 100 laps of his garden, raise £100 for the NHS before his 100th birthday.  He raised nearly £40 million pounds for NHS charities! He was a WWII veteran and became the oldest person to have a number one record (that shows my age!) along with Michael Ball and the NHS choirs and was knighted by the Queen. What a fantastic life and amazing last 10 months!
