Chirp and Tully tote

I don't feel as if I have a lot to show for slow Sunday stitching this week.  It's been a busy week in the garden but I have managed to add some stitches to the next bird in the Sue Spargo Chirp book.

This bird isn't quite as busy as the last one!  I had planned on doing this project as a block each month.  But this is bird number five, which should have been completed by the end of May and as tomorrow is the 1st June I am a tiny bit behind!

I also saw a pattern on face book for a tote bag and couldn't resist buying the pattern.  My plan is not to buy any fabric (lets see how that works out LOL) and to maybe do it in reds and add red work stitcheries.  So for my Sunday stitching I might get my light box out and trace a couple of patterns out and see where that leads me.

Chirp!

I'm really enjoying getting back into stitching Chirp after a small break to get the last pesky hen stitched!  And I've completed bird number four.  I think he might be my favourite so far!  Stitches used in this one include:- back stitch, bullion knots, chain stitch, cast on bullion knots, bullion rose, double cast on stitches, woven picot, Italian knotted border stitch, fly stitch and French knots!  As you can see there was a lot going on with this one!

and I was in the mood to cut out the remaining birds.  Don't they look gorgeous together?

I may not be able to link up to Kathy's blog for any slow Sunday stitching today, but I will be starting to stitch bird number five, so hop on over if you can to see what others are stitching today!

Bags and hens!

It has been a very hectic two weeks with my son and his wife coming to stay and my daughter and grandchildren visiting also.  But it has been so nice to have everyone together!  It does mean I have some projects to show you.  On Monday it was my craft group meeting and we started to make bags from jeans purchased in charity shops.  It was great fun and here are a couple of pictures showing where I am up to now and some of the under water fabrics that I will add at our next meeting.

I also pushed on and finished the last hen from Satsuma street.  I am REALLY glad they are done and I will never make another one!!!!  But once finished they are really cute and I do love the sayings on there bottoms.

and here she is with the rooster and the other hen.

I am also putting more stitches into Chirp, but more of that next week!

Hexies, cross stitch and Chirp!

We had guest staying last weekend, so I missed last weeks blog.  That does mean I have some progress to show on a couple of projects!  I have been thinking of starting another EPP project and prepped a pile of Tilda fabrics and downloaded the 1" hexies.  While my visitors were here I could stitch a few and chat!

Despite saying I wasn't going to start the last hen cross stitch, I found I wanted something to work on while listening to an audio book.  Something that wasn't going to distract from the story but would keep my hands busy.

Once a year there is an embroidery Fiesta takes place in a village not far from me.  So my DH and guests enjoyed a walk round the village and a coffee and cake at one of the many teashops in the village, while I nipped into the Fiesta to buy some more stitching supplies.  A lovely scissor keeper kit found its way home also.  I probably could have spent lots of time and much more money, but I was very conscious about my guests!!

Buying this Perle 8 thread made me realise I wanted to change some of the thread colour on Chirp number 4!  The yellow just wasn't right!

It was a real effort to unpick but I like the matching thread on this little chap much better now!

I think I might have to unpick some yellow stitching on one of the other birds too?

About a month ago I saw a book review and demonstration by a lovely lady (Emillie Ferris) on thread painting, which is something I've wanted to have a go at for a while, so ordered the book, which arrived on Friday.  It takes the reader through the process, which is just what I need. It is on the back burner for a while but I am enjoying reading the book and planning which project to start with.

That's it for now.  I will link up with Kathy for some slow Sunday stitching, although I'm not sure how much stitching I will get done.  In town today there are activities to commemorate VE day, so we will walk in and see what is going on.
