Slow Sunday stitching

I've had a mad burst of activity trying to finish off some of the projects I have started at my Creative Embroidery class! At the beginning of September it will be my last ever class with our lovely tutor as she has decided to retire.  So I really wanted to show her that I do finish some things!!  Here is the canvas work flower border that was started in July. I want to try and layer up the right hand corner with some leaves that stand off of the canvas to give it more perspective, so that is what I will be doing in the garden this afternoon for some slow Sunday stitching.  You can see what others are doing today over at Kathy's blog.

And of course work continues on '1 year of stitches'.  I've been very productive on this recently working my way round a colour every day but I've decided to go back to concentrating on one colour a week in the hope I can see some progress, so I've prepped the next seven weeks worth of thread in anticipation (bet I can't stick to only doing 1 strand a day!!)

'1 year of stitches'

We have been away for a few days in our motorhome, we stayed on a farm where there was us and one other van, so it was lovely and peaceful!

I've continued work on my '1 year of stitches' although it is hard to tell! And I've started on a little cross stitch picture that I found in a storage box where it has languished for years!  It will be my motorhome project when I get bored of what ever I have on the go.

Apart from that not a lot to show!!

Sunflowers and Slow Sunday Stitching

Following on from my creative embroidery class on Monday I have assembled the sunflowers (lots of French knots and gold beads to the centre) wrapped some hessian fibres and wire for the stalks and attached a few leaves.  I just need to decide where they are going to go and finish by mounting the picture, probably on a canvas of some sort.  Its been really enjoyable, but whether it ever gets put on the wall - we will see!

Work on 1 year of stitches continues according to plan, although as I said last week it's now hard to see progress!  I really enjoyed sewing the beads on the sunflowers, so I might start adding some beads (or maybe they need to be at the very end?) Anyway what ever I do I still love this project!!

My Internet is playing up grrrrr, don't you just hate it when that happens.  But all being well I will link up with Kathy's BLOG for some Slow Sunday Stitching!

Creative Embroidery

'August brings the sheaves of corn and then the Harvest home is borne' - Sara Coleridge

Creative embroidery was good fun today. Lots of messy PVA glue, gesso, stiffened hessian, acrylic paint, gold metallic wax rub, string, tissue paper.... you name it we used it!

This is my background piece (about 12" x 10"). The colours are very subtle (maybe too subtle) but they are browns and yellows.

The hessian will be added later for sunflowers and the three brown circles with French knots are the centres of the flowers. Still lots more to do but it was a great day!

1 year of stitches

I knew it would be hard to see progress each week from now on, but I promise you I have done two strands of each colour - that's a different colour each day for seven days! I concentrated on merging the colours across the lines and I will probably do the same next week.

I am heavily into blue clothes at the moment and everything I buy is blue.  But what I don't have is a blue bag .... that was until this week!  I have had this Dandelion Design bag pattern and this beautiful Rose and Hubble fabric for some time, all I needed was some time to make it.  And I'm thrilled with the result!
