Chicken coin purse

Wow what a heat wave we've had!  It has been pretty unbearable if I'm honest.  If we have managed to walk the dog it's been at 6am in the morning and even then it was a bit hot.  Some days she just didn't go out!  We stayed in the house with the fan on 24 hours a day, but the good news is today it's been a lot more normal temperatures and far more manageable and the sea breeze has helped.  I have done a bit of sewing and in fact I've nearly completed the next section of my SAL Oceans but don't have a photo so that will have to wait until next week.

What I did get finished mainly first thing in the morning or in the evenings was the little chicken coin purse that was featured in the Thread House Academy taster weekend.  This is one of Jo Avery's creations and is supper cute.  Not sure what I am going to do with him but he is really nice.

I've also added a couple more hexies to the ones I posted last week

I think I have 37 in total.  A long way to go but this is just a filler project so done as and when I have time or in the mood.

And lastly I thought I would post a photo of the sky from my house last night - it was so beautiful.

Hop on over to Kathy's blog tomorrow for some slow Sunday stitching and if you are suffering a heat wave try and stay cool!!!

Hexies , sewing case and tools pouch

I must admit I don't have a lot to share this week! I have however made a few more hexie flowers to go with the pile I already have.  My aim is to try to make one whole flower every day.  It's a small challenge but the weather here is so hot at the moment I really can't find the enthusiasm to sew although I must admit I am looking forward to getting the next part of the Oceans SAL which comes out tomorrow.

These are all Tilda fabrics, except the yellow centres.  The tiny flower fabric is from Tilda's new range called Brie.  I received a charm pack for my birthday and although the photo doesn't do the range justice, it is actually a very pretty collection.

Because my sewing this week is thin on the ground I thought I would show something I made from the Thread House Academy taster weekend a couple of months ago.

A small sewing case and a tools pouch.  The designer Karen
Lewis made her sample by upcycling a hand embroidered table cloth which made me think the piece of Sashiko I made a couple of years ago would work perfectly.

Right size piece of fabric but cutting it into the right pieces could result in all that lovely sashiko stitches unravelling!  And this was my solution.

If you look really closely you can see I've machine stitched the shape within the 1/4" seam!  It was a nice little project to make and I am pleased with the outcome which made me sign up for the full year of projects!  So thank you Gail for introducing me to the Thread House Academy.

I am linking up with Kathy for some more slow Sunday stitching

Coral Reef

This section of the SAL has been quite time consuming.  I guess it's all those colour changes!  That said I've enjoyed stitching it and really pleased I finished it before the next part which is published on June 15th

There were 2,339 stitches in this section and it is made up of:

Coral Reef: boulder brain coral, pillar coral, orange star coral, gorgonian sea whip and blue coral

The rest consists of sea anemonies, clownfish, common comet star, moorish idol, regal blue tang, picasso tiggerfish and a potato grouper!

No wonder it took me so long!!

Hop on over to Kathy's blog for more slow Sunday stitching!
